“Workers of the world, unite!” The blanket draws inspiration from Millet’s L’Angelus, created with an aesthetic reminiscent of Malevic. Millet’s painting, one of the most reproduced between the late 19th century and World War I, depicted the submission of the weak and poor to the exhausting labor of the land. Every countryside home had its Angelus hanging on the living room wall, and it was often embroidered on doilies placed over fireplaces.
